Building Rome for Gangs of Rome

I’ve completed my second of the buildings that are being built buildings for Gangs of Rome and I’m rather enjoying them as the formula I got for painting them works rather nicely.

As I’m getting close to finishing off my building for Gangs of Rome, just one to go before I get more, I need more buildings, I’m addicted, I thought I show you how I do my buildings. Firstly I spray the whole thing with red car primer and then once dried, after about an hour I apply masking tape to the lower half of the building to get that Roman look.

Then I gently spray white car primer over the building but do not aim to get a clean white surface but rather an uneven surface with the base red paint showing through. I achieve this but spray from arms length going slowly down the length of the building. Then peel off the masking tape once the white paint as dried.

Next I paint any brickwork the same or nearest colour to the red primer, I use Vallejo’s Model Colour Saddle Brown for this and then drybrush a lighter tone, I use Vallejo’s Game Colour Tan, for highlights to the brickwork.

I then base colour all the woodwork black using a spray for ease, then paint the wood with a dark brown, I’m using household paint, the little tester pots, like a drybrush but with more paint on it. Next dry brush a little brown over it to then a very light brown, I use Vallejo’s Model Colour Dark Flesh, for the final highlights.

The next stage I use a very watered down wash of Black Glaze, so it looks like dirty water, and wash it over the whole building with a large flat brush, as this creates the run marks natural and you can turn the brush to narrow the effect and create darker running.

The paint spills on the wooden boards are created by using a toothbrush and dabbing and dragging the paint and to get the thin paint look simply add a little water to the paint and paint it on and wipe the excess out.

I hope you like them.

Have a nice day.

Chillcon, Blood and Plunder, Phat Cats and a Award

Well on Saturday 31st March I travelled up to Chillcon, a new show in its second year, in Sheffield to put on a demo of Blood and Plunder. It was is a school hall and there was a fair number of traders and re-sellers there and over 600 people attended the show, which isn't too bad considering it is away from the city centre but actually it is better for it. I liked the show, it was friendly, pleasant and people showed interest and liked to chap and play games.

I was down there with my local club, The Leicester Phat Cats, and besides putting on the Blood and Plunder game we also put on a 30K Heresy game to with all manner of GW things shooting at all manager of GW things, yes I still have not got the bug for it and hoping I never will, but the models look good.

All in all it was a very good day especially as we won the Most Fun to Play Award for Blood and Plunder, which I am well chuffed about.

See if you can spot our table, lol

Next will also Chiilcon will be doing a second show this year in Derby on 22nd September, more details to come soon.

Have a nice day.

Blood and Plunder at Red on Blue in Nottingham

As the title says, yesterday, Sunday 11th February, I took my Blood and Plunder demo game to Red on Blue in Nottingham with the help of the Leicester Phat Cats and Lee Upton, who spent the day dressed as a Pirate. It was the very first time I had been the show, which is in its second year and though a small show it the a lovely atmosphere and was well supported by some of the big names in the business, most of whom live in and around Nottingham.

The show had a good number of traders and a fair number of games on shows ranging for Second World War games, Gangs of Rome, Gates of Antares, 30 and 40K games, a huge and I mean huge Kings of Wars and of course my Blood and Plunder. If fact the Leicester Phat Cats had three games on including Blood and Plunder, a 30K Horus Hersey demo games and a Beyond the Gates of Antares demo game.

My Blood and Plunder game was a dimple introduction game where each side had a couple of units and a commander in there forces. The scenario is the English village has come under an attack by the French as the French go for a land grab and the English try and defend it from them. The game is set around 1650s to 1660s so you have a mix of old and new for the time. We ran a few demo games and everyone who played enjoyed themselves with a couple coming back for more. The nice thing about the rules is that they are simple and after a couple of turns most people had picked up the rules and where playing with any help. Everyone seemed to enjoy it which was the main thing.

Thats all from me but to say I liked the show and will be back again as I enjoyed it and had a good day. Next post we had about Gangs of Rome.

Have a nice day.
